Common Questions

What does a real estate lawyer do in Ontario?

A real estate lawyer reviews and drafts purchase and sale agreements, conducts title searches, arranges title insurance, prepares mortgage and closing documents, and oversees the transfer of funds on closing day. Legal representation is required for all real estate transactions in Ontario.

What is title insurance and do I need it?

Title insurance protects property owners and lenders against losses related to the property's title, such as unknown liens, encroachments, survey defects, or fraud. While not legally required, it is strongly recommended for both residential and commercial transactions.

What should I know about commercial real estate transactions?

Commercial transactions are significantly more complex than residential ones, involving due diligence on zoning, environmental matters, existing tenancies, and financing. Our team has extensive experience in commercial purchases, sales, development projects, and leases across Southwestern Ontario.
